Ali M. Abbasov
Professor Ali M. Abbasov is the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, since 2004. He has had a long and remarkable career in academia, education and the public sector. His recent positions include: director of the Institute of Information Technologies of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Azerbaijan, rector of Azerbaijan State Economic University, MP in the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, and member of the Parliamentary Assembly to the Council of Europe. As minister, Prof. Abbasov pays special attention to accelerating the transition to the information society and the formation of the digital economy; application of e government solutions and new technologies; and the development of broadband services and human resources. He has been the initiator and oversees the implementation of several national and regional projects. Prof. Abbasov is member of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the International Informatization Academy and International Telecommunication Academy, member of Broadband Commission for Digital Development under Secretary General of UN, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
