V National Essay Contest “Face to Face with Future Generations” was organized by theAzerbaijan Node of The Millennium Project

High-level Award Ceremony celebrates the winners of the 2013 Contest of high school and university students fromacross Azerbaijan addressing the Global Challenges described by The MillenniumProject

 “Faceto Face with the Future Generation” National Essay Contest is a jointproject of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology ofAzerbaijan Republic (www.mincom.gov.az), the Ministry of Education of AzerbaijanRepublic (www.edu.gov.az), The Ministry of Youth and Sports ofAzerbaijan Republic (www.mys.gov.az) , the State Committee for Family, Women andChildren Affairs of Azerbaijan Republic (www.scfwca.gov.az),initiated by the Azerbaijan Future Studies Society (www.futurestudies.az). The Award Ceremony of the 5th National Essay Contest washeld at the Ministry of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic, on November 4,2013.

The Azerbaijan FutureStudies Society - Azerbaijan Node of The Millennium Project is conducting this nationalessay contest for high school and of universities (bachelor degree) studentsfor five years. The participants are asked to study and suggest actions relatedto the 15 Global Challenges addressed by The Millennium Project.

“The main objective of the Contest is that the young generation ofAzerbaijan understands that all processes in the world are interconnected andimpact their future, so that they comprehend and adapt to the new realities created by thepolitical, economic, demographic, ecological, technological, and other changes.It educates the young people in the era of globalization to develop a strong,conflict-free future, and most of all to see the main impacts and interconnections of the 15 Global Challengesof the Millennium Project in the context of the Azerbaijan society”, saysReyhan Huseynova, President of the Azerbaijan Futures Studies Society,initiator of the contest.

This year, about 900 high school anduniversity students participated, from the following Azerbaijan cities andregions: Baku, Sumgayit, Ganja, Ismayilli, Kurdamir, Gakh, Mingachevir, Khizi,Yardimli and Hajigabul. The jury of experts selected 51 finalists--33 highschool students and 18 university students (38 female and 13 male.) At the awardceremony, the winners of the first three places received certificates andvaluable gifts from different Ministries of Azerbaijan.

The Award Ceremony was attended byhigh-level officials from Azerbaijan, including Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister ofEducation; Ali Abbasov, Minister of ICT; Azad Rahimov, Minister of Youth andSport; Hijran Huseynova, Minister of Family, Women and Children Affairs; ReyhanHuseynova, President of Azerbaijan Futures Studies Society; as well as ConcepcionOlaviarrieta from Mexico, Chair of the Mexican Node of The Millennium Project;and Elizabeth Florescu from Canada, Director of Research of The MillenniumProject.

The university-level students participating in the contest were fromAzerbaijan State Economic University, Baku Asia University, Baku BusinessUniversity, Ganja State University, Azerbaijan Medical University, SumgayitState University, Sumgayit State Technical University, Baku StateSocial-Economic College and Sumgayit State Technical College.
